The Magic of Pines Party in Fire Island

Pines Party is more than just a bash on the beach. It serves as a significant fundraiser for the Stonewall Community Foundation and various local LGBTQ+ charities in Fire Island and New York City. Imagine dancing on the sand all day and night, with lively streets and a crowd that embraces the idea of releasing inhibitions and fully experiencing the present moment.

A Rich History

The story of Pines Party goes back to 1983 with the Morning Party, a fundraiser for the Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) during the early days of the AIDS crisis. This event, inspired by an earlier one called Beach ‘79, was a lifeline, raising much-needed funds as the gay community faced an unprecedented health crisis. By 1991, the Morning Party had evolved into a massive beach event with legendary performances, like Gloria Gaynor singing “I Will Survive.”

Though GMHC stopped sponsoring the party in 1998, the party spirit never left. In 1999, a group of locals got together and decided to fill the gap, creating Pines Party. They wanted something new, an all-night beach party with a fresh theme each year. The first one, “Arabian Nights,” was a hit, raising half a million dollars for charity.
