How to Get to Fire Island Pines?

Updated: Apr 12

You are less than 2.5 hours away from the #1 gay destination in the world - Fire Island Pines! So, pack your swimsuits and sunblock, because here's how to get there for an unforgettable summer adventure!

Before you embark on your journey by car, train or even plane, you are going to want to check on the Sayville Ferry Service schedule and make sure that your train arrival time aligns with the ferry time.

Take the Train

Coming from Hell's Kitchen? Hop on the LIRR from Penn Station to Sayville. Alternatively, if you’re in Brooklyn go to Atlantic Terminal, or Jamaica Station if you’re in Queens, or flying in from JFK airport, take the train to Sayville.

Note: For Amtrak travelers who are arriving at Penn station, all you have to do is walk over to the LIRR side and follow the next directions.

Make sure to download the MTA e-Tix app to purchase your tickets in advance. Don't worry about switching trains in Babylon; the second one is usually right across the platform. Once you arrive at the Sayville train station, Colonial Transportation's shuttles wait in the train parking lot to whisk you to the ferry terminal for a just $6 one-way.

After a short journey you’ve now arrived at the ferry. Even if you missed a train connection, vacation starts now! Enjoy a cocktail at the bar while you wait for the next boat to come in. If you’re paying by credit card make sure to get a $20 roundtrip ticket at least 10 minutes before boarding. If you’ve arrived just in time, make sure you have cash on you!

Have a Car?

If you're driving, head straight to the Sayville Ferry terminal and park in their convenient lot across the street. Beware of lot pricing though, if you’re staying the weekend you will be paying a minimum of $50 to park your car there. Lyft or Uber can also get you there hassle-free, but beware of weekend traffic - the train might be faster and cheaper.

Flying into New York?If you're jet-setting into NYC, follow these pointers:

  •  JFK Airport: Hop on the AirTrain to Jamaica Station, then catch an LIRR train to Sayville.

  • LGA Airport: Take a cab or app ride to Jamaica Station for the LIRR to Sayville.

  • EWR Airport: AirTrain to NJ Transit to Penn Station, then LIRR to Sayville.

  • Macarthur Islip Airport (ISP): Enjoy a scenic flight over Fire Island before landing just 15 minutes from Sayville. Grab a taxi or Lyft to the ferry terminal for a swift boarding. Follow these travel tips, and you’ll be sure to make your weekend in the Pines just in time for Low Tea. See you on the sandy shores and under the sunny skies of Fire Island!
